RELIANCE INDUSTRIES LTD.

Reliance industries Ltd. is the only fortune 500 Indian company. No wonder there is so much to learn from company which converts its brilliant past to a prosporous future.

the company started with textiles but over the years it underwent Backward integration. Hazira is the most important link in hierarchy. This plant takes petrochemicals from jamnagar site to produce polyester and many other products. I am placed in the POY(partially oriented Yarn)section of Phase II(polyester phase). Phase I is concerned with production of raw materials for phase II.

The main products of this plant are POY/PET chips. it covers CP1,2,3,SSP,NG3,CP10 plants. a seperate utility section serves to its process requirements.
the plants run 24x7 hrs a week.the capacity utilisation is dangerously close to 99% and surpasses all standards.The quality of products is benchmarked regularly.

In the first week of my industrial experience, there was a lot to learn.

The week started with the "Reliance orientation Session" at hazira Manufacturing site. It gave us a deeper insight and understanding about reliance Manufacturing Philosophies and Practices.

There were presenations about

1. "Health Safety Environment - A Way of Life at Reliance"by Dr. P.R. Tipnis ( Chief, Centre for HSE Excellence)

2. "Overview of Reliance Refineries"by Mr. Somnath (Hazira Manufacturing Division)

3. "Reliance: A Chemical Engineer's Paradise"by Dr. V. Gopalakrishnan (Central Technical Services)

4. "World Class Engineering at Reliance"by Mr. P.K. Jain (HOD, Central Engineering Services)

5. "Polymers"by Dr. Anand (Polymer Sector Chief)

6. "Business Excellence"by Dr. Ravi Ramaswamy (Incharge, Planning and Coordination)

we completed our formalities of gate pass and bus pass.

we met with our Respective Mentos who gave us a deeper insight to Reliance and an overview of our role in Reliance.

We also had our Safety workshops to train us to be safe in case of any emergency.

I was also made familiar to SAP which contains information about every activity taking place in the plant specially the materials management. I also visited the Recieving section of the plant (Storehouse).

My Guide mr. Alpesh Merai, Planning Engg.,POY made up my induction schedule to be followed over next 2 weeks. i was also given a brief overview about my project in the plant "OPTIMISATION OF CONSUMABLES CONSUMPTION".
